There is a strong upward trend in India’s premium video industry. AVIA believes the market is worth $1.7 billion now and is expected to almost double by 2028 which makes India the fastest-growing OTT market in Asia-Pacific.

This increase is caused by low-cost data, a growing internet user base and the success of platforms that follow the latest trends for video production, relying on content by viewers (UGC), ads and live streaming.

Live Sports Impact: Events shown live, especially in sports, still account for the biggest share of premium video advertising money. On JioCinema, IPL games and ICC T20 World Cups on Disney+ Hotstar earned 70% of all premium video advertising revenues in 2023-2024.

Ultimately, these events led piracy to drop which suggested that more people preferred legal options.
